This year marks the eighth year of our charity initiative, #DalataDigsDeep which sees us raise thousands of pounds for our charity partners across Ireland and the UK. In 2022 we selected three new charity partners, The Marie Keating Foundation in Ireland, Leukaemia Care in Great Britain and Air Ambulance NI in Northern Ireland. Three incredible charities who are all benefiting from the amazing lengths our people go to raise money and save lives.
We will look closely at the work each charity does in the future editions and share with you just how the money we raise impacts people's lives and will leave a legacy within the charities for years to come.
Air Ambulance NI provides emergency helicopter medical service for the whole of Northern Ireland. It costs £2.5 million per year to keep the service operational and we are partnering to support their lifesaving work in providing immediate care to people with serious injuries.
The Marie Keating Foundation operates three mobile screening units which take to the road to help people identify the early signs of cancer. With such demands on the service, it was found that two of the units are approaching the end of their lifespan. Through our support it has just been announced that the Foundation is in a position to purchase two new units – a truly wonderful achievement and a development which will leave a legacy with the Foundation long after our partnership ends.
In Great Britain, Leukaemia Care work to ensure that everyone affected receives the best possible diagnosis, information, advice, treatment and support. We have been working to facilitate accommodation, especially for families of young people, as they spend time in hospital for treatment. Often these treatments are in London which can be an expensive place to stay, especially for periods of up to six weeks. The lifeline we provide these families with often means they aren’t sleeping on hospital floors, but can instead be comfortable in our hotels during these challenging times.
We have already facilitated a number of families in this way and the fundraising each of you do is making a real difference.
The culture of helping others in Dalata is truly remarkable but what is also remarkable is the fun and togetherness we enjoy. I’m constantly amazed at some of the, let’s face it, insane fundraising ideas you come up with. They are all brilliant and importantly we have great fun along the way as we work to change people’s lives for the better. By seeing the money you raise at work through these pages, I hope it inspires and encourages us all to go above and beyond in our upcoming charity fundraising.
