At Dalata, our people have certainly been digging deep for our new charity partners with over €215,000 raised in the first year alone. We are determined the next two years of our partnerships with the Marie Keating Foundation, Leukaemia Care and Air Ambulance Northern Ireland will be every bit as successful.
Last month, we took our fundraising efforts to the next level during our focused Dalata Digs Deep Month. We saw incredible fundraising activities taking place at all our hotels across Ireland, the UK and continental Europe as well as Central Office. We already know we have the best people, but the efforts to consistently go above and beyond for our charity partners is nothing short of inspirational. We had over 200 events ranging from bake sales, bucket collections and raffles to bungee jumps, sky dives, abseiling down buildings, running half marathons and everything in-between.
To kick it off, a group of eight volunteers from Dalata completed a 1,100-kilometre cycle around the island of Ireland in aid of our charities. The cyclists set off from the Maldron Hotel Dublin Airport, before passing through Belfast, Derry, Sligo, Galway, Limerick, Cork, and Wexford. The cycle stopped off at several of our hotels along the way, before finishing at the Clayton Hotel Burlington Road, Dublin on September 8. The cycle underlined our continuous dedication to making a positive impact within the communities where our hotels are situated. The creativity and enthusiasm of our people makes Dalata Digs Deep not only has a positive social impact with our charity partners, but it also a lot of fun and brings a lot of laughs along the way.
As an employee driven initiative, it was decided through an employee vote that ‘Health and Wellbeing’ would be a core focus for this fundraising period. The three charities were selected by Dalata’s Charity Committee who looked at specific charities focused on improving lives, with each charity representing a different geographical region (Republic of Ireland, Great Britain and Northern Ireland). As a result of our fundraising in the first year of the partnership, the Board of the Marie Keating Foundation have commissioned two new mobile information units which will replace two of the existing three mobile units and will allow Marie Keating Foundation services to continue for years to come.
The Dalata partnership with Leukaemia Care supports leukaemia patients aged between 0-25 years old. Dalata will be providing long stay accommodation close to the hospital that can administer a new treatment called CAR-T. Only nine hospitals in GB offer this treatment and the locations match conveniently with Dalata hotels, with this project ensuring it is possible for patients to get the treatment they need. To date, through our fundraising, we have supported numerous families either with accommodation or meeting other costs for these families through the dedicated Car-T Away from Home fund.
Meanwhile, funds raised by Dalata will support costs at Air Ambulance Northern Ireland including helicopter rental, fuel, the airbase, pilots, engineering and maintenance of the aircraft, aviation training or a flight suit for the medics. Our fundraising to date is already having a great impact in allowing this important service to continue their great work. Thank you to everyone who took part in Dalata Digs Deep month – a different way, abetter way to support our charity partners.
